Homecoming Weekend

HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University’s 2017 Homecoming Weekend will be one to remember, as the University celebrates two major milestones: 150 years since the school’s founding and 40 years of exceptional leadership under the direction of Dr. William R. Harvey.

Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a progressive institution of higher education that is rich in history, dedicated to the promotion of learning, and committed to the building of character and preparation of promising students for positions of leadership and service.

Leading the way in the pursuit of continued academic advancement, Dr. William R. Harvey became the school’s 12th president in 1978. During his tenure, Hampton has experienced continued growth in the number and quality of the University’s student population, academic programs, and financial base. Innovations introduced under his leadership have solidified Hampton’s position as one of the top historically black universities in the world.

As part of the University’s year-long celebration of its historic 150th, and President Harvey’s 40th anniversaries, Homecoming 2017 will feature exciting and memorable events for alumni, students, family and friends. Taking place October 19-22, events will include a first-of-its-kind Greek Crab & Craft Fest, an anniversary kickoff concert featuring Brian Culbertson, the Biggest Day Party Ever, Penthouse Platinum Experience and more!

“Every year, we welcome our University alumni and friends back for Homecoming to reflect on, and reconnect with their ‘Home by the Sea,’” said Brint Martin, Director of Alumni Affairs. “This year, there’s no shortage of entertaining and unforgettable events to celebrate our Hampton spirit and catch up with old friends. We invite all alumni to come back, reminisce and have a great time.”

Events sponsored by the University and the Office of Alumni Affairs are opportunities for alumni and friends of the University to have fun while reconnecting with one another and to "party with a purpose." Funds raised from these events go toward aiding the University in key areas, including general scholarships. Donations raised from Homecoming ticket sales also count toward class giving totals.
