The Department of Political Science and History at Hampton University, which houses the BA in Political Science, BA in History, and BA in International Studies degrees, is seeking to fill position Pre-Law Director at the Associate or Assistant professor level, beginning Fall 2022. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will serve as the Director of the Pre-Law Program in the Department of Political Science and History, with the overall responsibility of leading/managing the Pre-Law program to include: 1) implementation of strategies/programming to meet the goals and objectives of the Pre-Law Program; 2) budget and resource management; 3) advising Pre-Law students; 4) ensuring that the program meets its’ goals in the areas of recruitment, retention, law school placements and fundraising. They will also be responsible for teaching pre-law courses. The Pre-Law Program director reports directly to the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Education and is part of the School’s leadership team. 

 

Requirements

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate capacity for leadership and program development, scholarship, potential for, or record of, externally funded research/program activity, and commitment to quality teaching and mentoring of students.


Qualifications

The successful candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of 1) holding a Ph.D. in Political Science or History or a J.D. from an accredited university and 2) being a member in good standing of the Virginia Bar. Experience teaching at the university level in undergraduate settings, ability to conduct scholarly/funded research and publish in peer-reviewed outlets, and the ability to advise students is also preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will serve as the Chair of the Department of Political Science and History, with overall responsibility for leading/managing this department. As the chief administrative and academic officer of the department the chair will have the authority and responsibility to deliver academic programs in accordance with departmental, school, and university strategic plans. The chair is responsible for: 1) the hiring and evaluation of department personnel to include faculty and staff; 2) budget and resource management; 3) faculty evaluations and teaching effectiveness; 4) course offerings and scheduling; 4) student recruitment, retention, and placement. They should also be committed to teaching, the advisement of students and capable of leading faculty in research and grantsmanship activity. The department chair reports directly to the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Education and is part of the School’s leadership team. 

 

Requirements

The research in the CFRT is focused on applied mathematics research in fusion science and on the application of nonlinear dynamics to fusion. Additionally, faculty must prepare andmaintain current course syllabi and outlines; develop course expectations; sustain expertise in specialty areas in teaching,research, and professional development; advise and register assigned students; participate in recruitment and retentionactivities; keep accurate academic/student records. Faculty members are expected to conduct and utilize research to integrateand discover knowledge. They are also expected to represent the University, the School of Science, and the Department ofMathematics when participating in professional organizations, meetings and conferences, and community activities. Theannual contract covers nine months, with the summer months off for professional or personal development.

Qualifications

The successful candidates will hold an earned Doctorate at the time of the appointment in the Mathematics/Statistics/Relatedfield.
